SUMMARY
The magnitude of corrosion, cause of economic effects of corrosion and cost elements of corrosion damages are discussed. The results of survey of technical condition of bridges and viaducts in Poland made by Supreme Inspection Chamber are described. Existing legal status resulting from the obligatory act “Building Law” and the result of its defects are discussed. The guidelines for correct design of constructions resulting from recommendations of the General Direction of Public Roads and Motorways and necessary professional qualifications of contractors are given. The examples of incorrect design and poor maintenance are described and illustrated. The conclusions concerning minimization of economic effects of corrosion are presented.
