SUMMARY
The paper presents corrosion hazards and application of electrochemical protection technology (cathodic protection) of underground structures - infrastructure on the example of municipal agglomerations. All newly established European standards have been presented concerning cathodic protection systems (pipelines, tanks, borehole casings, reinforced concrete, hydrotechnical structures) and limiting of stray current interaction. A novel approach has been demonstrated on the basis of standards to anticorrosion protection criteria and certification of personnel dealing with cathodic protection. Special attention has been given to stray current problems and their investigation techniques. The correlation method of stray current hazard evaluation has been more widely discussed. A correlation has been indicated between effectiveness of cathodic protection system and exploitation safety of underground structure.
