SUMMARY
New technological solutions of the production of forging die inserts used in forging machines for diesel engine parts of tractors are presented. Actual solution consists on toughening of die inserts made of WCL steel. In the adopted new solution, die inserts made of cast steel of composition corresponding with WCL steel, after toughening are submitted to the controlled gas nitriding by NITREG method or fluidized bed oxynitriding. Tests results of immediate resistance, impact strength and service life have proved the favourable effect of nitriding and oxynitriding processes on properties and service life of die inserts. An interesting technological innovation was also the precise casting of die inserts by Shaw method, which leads to the reduction of their production cost.
