PWEAR- RESISTANT NITRIDE LAYERS ON HOT
WORK TOOL STEELS

SUMMARY
The experimental results of wear ability testing of nitride layers, in particular hybrid coatings (diffusion nitriding + TiN PVD coating) on hot work tool steels are presented in the paper. The research aim was the improvement of wear resistance by modification of surface layer and than by hard coating. The experiments were carried-out with hot work tool steels (samples and dies) which have been subjected to thermal treatment. The metallographic analysis and the abrasion resistance measurements were made. The obtained results prove that hybrid coatings show better wear resistance as compared to heat treated steel, heat treated and TiN coated or heat treated and diffusive nitrided steel.
