APPLICATION OF MULTIPLEX TECHNOLOGY
FOR MANUFACTURING OF SCOURER ROLLS

SUMMARY
Structural characteristics of layers obtained with MULTIPLEX technology (welding of HSS steel on constructional carbon steel and gas sulfonitriding of generated layers). As a result of welding, the equally laid padding welds without pores, cracs, impurity agglomerations or traces of unmelted electrode were obtained. High temper of padding weld material made possible to obtain the martensite structure, which was tempered during sulfonitriding process, as well as the ledeburite carbides that occur often as a grid on the boundaries of former austenite grains. Hardness of the realised padding weld was about 900 HV. The sulfonitriding layer obtained after thermochemical processing consits
of external sulfiding zone, next zone of nitride compounds (ε and γ’) with FeS sulfides inclusions and finally zone of internal nitriding. Surface hardness of the layer after sulfonitriding process increased up to 1300 HV. The operational comparison of the original rolls and those manufactured with MULTIPLEX technology showed much higher durability of the last ones.
