SUMMARY
The results of investigation of corrosion resistance of zinc coatings formed on steels with various content of silicon (0,001 %, 0,02 %, 0,05 %, 0,27 %) are presented. The kinetics of coatings growth during immersion in melted Zn, ZnAl and ZnNi baths was determined. The thickness and structure of coatings on steels with the above defined silicon content were different. Neutral salt spray test was used for the evaluation of corrosion resistance of coatings. The best protective properties were obtained for coatings formed on steels with 0,05 % Si silicon content, that is considered as critical for hot-dip galvanizing process. It was found that these coatings are characterized by the highest thickness and the highest content of Fe-Zn intermetallic phase.
