ACTUAL STANDARDS FOR AN EVALUATION OF GALVANIZING PROCESSES AND QUALITY OF ZINC COATINGS

SUMMARY
The paper describes standards concerning zinc coatings: electrolytic, hot dip, thermally sprayed, diffusion (sherardizing) and mechanically deposited, from the point of view of the evaluation of their quality. The following properties are rated: appearance, thickness, adhesion, corrosion resistance (not all of them in particular cases). The subject is presented basing on two types of documents: general standards concerning deposition of zinc coatings on different surfaces and more specific standards concerning coatings on articles. Generally one may assume that requirements are different. Controversial subject is an acceptance a presence of “white rust” without any details. In conclusion of the discussion concerning new documents it is suggested to take into account the needs of the market.
