Some issues regarding the influence of heat treatment and thermochemical treatment of material of cutting
edges on the physical properties and tool durability of hobs are presented and the results of experimental
works are included. The effects of a substrate materials and their states on the functional properties of coated
tools are shortly discussed. Global trends in this field and directions of future activities regarding the hobs
