NA STOPIE MAGNEZU TYPU Mg-Al-Zn WEAR RESISTANCE OF CHROMIUM COATINGS NITRIDED IN THE GLOW DISCHARGE CONDITIONS ON MAGNESIUM TYPE Mg-Al-Zn ALLOY

SUMMARY
The ability of magnesium alloys to compete in the new area of applications depends on the advances achieved by means of surface engineering. It seems that one of the interesting methods is to coat magnesium alloys with wear and corrosion resistant chromium nitride CrN type layers. The aim of the work was to examine the applicability of duplex method combining plasma assisted nitriding with PVD pre-coating on magnesium alloy substrate. The paper presents the preliminary results of the analysis of the structure and the properties of the layers obtained on AZ91D alloy. The duplex method allows to produce Cr-CrN type composite layers with an outer nitride zone, which are diffusion bonded to the substrate. The layers significantly increase the surface hardness and wear resistance of the AZ91D alloy.
